Fisher, Maxie

A member of the New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame, Fisher was a lightweight in the 1930s. During his career, Fisher twice defeated future welterweight champion Freddie Cochrane, and lost tough decisions to two other champions.

Career Highlights:
Born in Massachusetts, Fisher moved to New Jersey and fought out of Newark during his professional career. After defeating Frankie Marchese in 1933, Fisher split decisions with future welterweight champion Freddie Cochrane in 1935. They fought a third time the following year, and Fisher defeated Cochrane again in a ten-round decision (all three fights were in Newark). In April 1937, Max fought featherweight champ Mike Belloise in a non-title fight and lost a ten-round decision.

Later in 1937, Fisher fought another future champion, Tippy Larkin, who would win the junior welterweight crown in 1946. Fisher faced Larkin three times in 1937, losing all three bouts on decisions. Max again fought Cochrane in 1938 (losing an eight-round decision), and Larkin in 1940 (losing a ten-round decision) before retiring.
