Born in Philadelphia, Cobb (his given name was Sam Kolb) began boxing professionally in 1909, when he defeated Young Harry Lewis in a four-round decision. Two years later, Cobb fought Johnny Dundee, the future world junior lightweight champion, to a 10-round no decision in New York City. In July 1912, the two fighters had a rematch in which Cobb lost on a technical knockout in the first-round after his dislocated his ankle (thanks to boxrec.com). In July 1913, Cobb was knocked out in the fifth-round by top lightweight contender George "K.O." Chaney. He ended his career in the mid-1910s.
