A heavyweight, Demedowitz began his professional career in the mid-1930s. In March 1936, he fought fellow Jewish heavyweight, Henry Cooper at Broadway Arena in Brooklyn and won a six-round decision. The previous year, he lost to Red Boyette, the former New York State National Guard heavyweight champion, on a second-round technical knockout.
