Hahn, Damion

The 2003 NCAA champion, Damion is the pride and joy of the highly successful Minnesota Athletics wrestling program. At the close of the 2003 season, the wrestler had a career record of 85-20-0. The star college senior is a prime contender for next year's title.

Hahn was among the best high school wrestlers in the U.S. during his time at Lakewood High School in New Jersey. He won the Junior National Freestyle Champion three times, placed fourth at the 1999 World Championships, and was named All-American twice while winning the New Jersey state title three times. Damion coasted to a perfect 36-0 in his senior year and even won High School Athlete of the Month in Sports Illustrated.

The wrestler earned All-America honors in his freshman year at Minnesota. He went on to win the Northern Open and Bison Open titles that year. At the end of the season he was named Most Outstanding Freshman by his school and given his first letter.

Damion won another All-America honor in his sophomore year. He won his first Big Ten individual title and compiled a 30-10 record for 2001-02. The highlight of Hahn's year was winning the 2002 U.S. University Freestyle National Championship in the 84kg category on the way to another letter year.

In the 2002-03 season, Damion won the 197 pounds NCAA title, beating Lehigh's Jon Trenge 5-4 in the final. He won another individual Big Ten title, earned the Fraser Dean Most Courageous Award and, a third letter in the sport.
