Halpern, Robert "Buck"

Halpern played in the NFL for the Staten Island Stapletons in 1930. The Stapletons, which had been competing as an independent team for over a decade, were finally allowed an NFL franchise in 1929, but found that they could not compete in talent or budget with their rivals, the New York Giants. The Stapletons were an NFL franchise for only four years, officially folding after the 1934 season.

Career Highlights:
After playing at CCNY for three seasons, Halpern played one year in professional football. In 1930, Halpern played three games for the Staten Island Stapletons in the NFL; the team finished sixth in the league with a record of 5-5-2. Other Jewish players on the Stapletons that year were linemen Ollie Satenstein, and Sammy Stein.

Halpern played guard at the City College of New York from 1926-1928. He then played as a guard in the NFL with the Staten Island Stapletons in 1930.
