Samuel J. Horwitz

Horwitz was a three-time selection as All-Western Conference honorable mention while playing at the University of Chicago from 1929-1931. During his career, Horwitz was described as "head man [on]...defense." He was team captain and team MVP in as a senior in 1931.

Career Highlights:
Born in Chicago, Horwitz attended Englewood High School before attending the University of Chicago. As a sophomore, he moved into the starting line-up and then remained there at guard for the remainder of his college career. In 1929, the Maroon had a record of 7-3-0, including a 13-6 victory over conference rival Indiana; during the game, Horwitz blocked two punts. That year, he was named All-Western Conference honorable mention.

In 1930, Chicago only had a record of 2-5-2 but Horwitz repeated as All-Western Conference honorable mention. In 1931, he was named captain and MVP of the team. He was also named AP All-America honorable mention, and All-Western honorable mention.
