Bassman, Herman 'Reds'

In the mid-1930s, Bassman played football at Ursinus College, a Division III college in Pennsylvania. Herman was a three-sport star at Ursinus; he also competed in track and wrestling.

b. February 25, 1913

Career Highlights:
In 1934, Bassman returned an interception 45-yards for a touchdown and Ursinus posted perhaps its biggest win ever, 7-6, over highly regarded Penn. The game would later be called one of the shocking upsets of the decade. Ursinus had not beaten, or even scored on Penn, since 1910.

After graduating in 1935, Bassman played one season in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles. In 1936, he played in eight games for the Eagles, who had a record of 1-11-0. Bassman is a member of Ursinus's athletic Hall of Fame.

Bassman played at Ursinus College from 1933-1935. He then played tailback, halfback, and defensive back in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1936.
