Edward Bell

Bell was a center at the University of Indiana in the mid-1940s and played in the College All-Star Game in 1945 and 1946. Ed later played professionally in the NFL and in the short-lived AAFC (All-American Football Conference).

Career Highlights:
Bell played center at Indiana during the 1940s. In 1943, the Hoosiers ended the season with a record of 4-4-2, losing their final three games of the season. In 1944, Indiana vastly improved, finishing 7-3-0.

In 1945, Bell's senior year, the Hoosiers had a dream season, winning the Big Ten title with a conference record of 5-0-1 (their tie was against Northwestern 7-7 in the second game of the year). Indiana finished the season with an overall record of 9-0-1 and ranked No. 4 in the nation by the Associated Press. In 1945 and 1946, Bell appeared in the College All-Star Game. He also appeared in the Blue-Grey Game in 1945.

After graduating, Bell played as a professional ball in the AAFC and NFL. In 1946, he played seven games for the Miami Seahawks in the AAFC. The Seahawks finished last in the Eastern Division with a record of 3-11-0 and the franchise folded after the season. The following year, Bell moved to the NFL to play for the Green Bay Packers. He was a regular on the offensive line for the Packers between 1947-49, playing in 35 out of a possible 36 regular season games. Unfortunately, the Packers were not very good; their best season during Ed's career came in 1947, when they had a record of 6-5-1. Bell retired following the 1949 season, having played in 42 career games in the NFL and AAFC.

Bell played center at Indiana University from 1943-45. He then played professionally on the offensive line with the Miami Seahawks of the All-America Football Conference in 1946, and in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers from 1947-1949.
