Hodosh, Milton

An All-Ivy League and All-East performer at Brown University in the late 1940s, Hodosh later became a dentist in Providence, Rhode Island.

Career Highlights:
From Providence, Hodosh attended Hope High School and finished sixth in the javelin throw (161'9'3/4") in the National AAU Junior Championships in 1943. After graduating from Hope, Hodosh then attended Brown University, located in his hometown, and played varsity football for four seasons. In 1946, as a freshman, Hodosh started at left guard from the beginning of the season, a 14-7 victory over Canisius. That year, Brown finished with a record of 3-5-1.

The following season, Hodosh was again penciled in as a starting guard and just before the season the New York Times reported that the team expected to have a mucher better season. The Times continued by stating: "The strength of the line and the team's success will depend on the availability of two guards, presently missing from the practice field. One of them is Milton Hodosh...want to play football, but they also want to concentrate more on their classroom work." Hodosh reported to the team the week prior to the season opener and again started at guard as the team finished with a record of 4-4-1.

In 1948, Hodosh was named AP All-Ivy League honorable mention and All-East honorable mention as Brown had a record of 7-2-0 and outscored their opponents 242-103. The following season, as a senior, Milton was named AP All-Ivy League third team; that season the Bears had a record of 8-1-0 and outscored their opponents 263-94. One of his teammates at Brown was Joe Paterno, the legendary football coach at Penn State.
