Blasentine, Joe

Joseph Blasenstein

Blasentine played on some very strong Penn State University teams in the early 1960s, and performed with such intensity that coach Joe Paterno said he, "couldn’t tell you two plays that happened prior to that [play]." Blasentine later became a teacher in New Jersey.

Career Highlights:
Blasentine, an offensive guard, played in three straight bowl games for the Penn State Nittany Lions, beginning in 1960 when the team finished the season ranked No. 16 with a 7-3-0 record. Penn State then defeated Oregon, 41-12, in the Liberty Bowl.

The following year, Joe was named AP All-East third team and the Nittany Lions finished the season ranked No. 17 with a 8-3-0 record and defeated No. 13 Georgia Tech, 30-15, in the Gator Bowl.

In 1962, Joe was named AP, UPI All-America honorable mention, and AP All-East second team as No. 9 Penn State (9-2-0) returned to the Gator Bowl, where they lost to Florida, 17-7. In 1961 and 1962, Penn State was awarded the Lamber-Meadowlands Trophy as the top team in the East.
