Alan Stuart Veingrad

An offensive lineman in the NFL from 1986-1992, Veingrad was a member of the Dallas Cowboys in 1992 when they won the Super Bowl. In a 1995 article in the New York Times, Alan spoke of the importance of Judaism in his life.
He explained, "It's hard being a professional football player. It's harder still being a Jewish football player...In the rough and tumble environment of an NFL team, a Jew is an outsider. Most meaningful to me is Judaism's strong emphasis on family and celebration, passed down to my brother and me by our parents. Among my warmest memories are Passover seders...or during Hanukkah, our festival of light and freedom, with its beautiful rituals, food, and songs. These holidays and others, and the weekly celebration of the Shabbat, bring us added joy and meaning and help us to renew Judaism and ourselves."

Career Highlights:
An offensive lineman at Texas A&M; University-Commerce (East Texas State University), Veingrad signed with the Green Bay Packers as a free agent in 1986. He played four seasons with the Packers, who unfortunately did not make the playoffs during his time with the team; their best finish was second in the NFL Central in 1989 with a record of 10-6-0.
In 1991, Alan moved to the Dallas Cowboys and played in all sixteen games that season. The 'Boys finished the season with a record of 11-5-0 and lost in the playoffs to the Detroit Lions, 38-6. The following year, the Cowboys won the NFC East with a record of 13-3-0 and then defeated the Buffalo Bills, 52-17, in the Super Bowl. Veingrad retired following the season, having played in 86 career NFL games. He played in all 16 regular season games in 1986, 1988, 1990, and 1991.
