Epstein, Henry Moses

Epstein is the first known Jew to have competed in American intercollegiate football. In 1870, Henry played for Columbia University against Rutgers in the third football game ever played, one year after college football began in the U.S.A. Epstein later served as Secretary of Commerce under President Theodore Roosevelt.
