Career Highlights:
Born in Philadelphia, Shiekman attended Overbrook High School in his hometown before playing three years of varsity football at Penn in the early 1940s. In 1940, as a sophomore guard, Shiekman stepped into the starting line-up midway through the season due to injuries to other players. That year, the Quakers had a record of 6-1-1, outscored their opponents 247-79, and finished the season ranked No. 14 in the country. Their only loss was to No. 3 Michigan, 14-0 in the fourth game of the year.

In 1941, Shiekman continued to start on the line as Penn posted a record of 7-1-0, outscoring their opponents 180-55. That year, their only loss came against No. 10 Navy, 13-6, and the Quakers finished ranked No. 15. In 1942, Penn ended the season unranked with a record of 5-3-1 and after the season, Mort played in the East-West Shrine Game for the East team. He was selected in the 12th round of the 1943 NFL Draft, but did not play professionally.
