After an outstanding career at the University of Maryland, Mesner played one season in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills under head coach Marv Levy.

Career Highlights:
In the mid-1980s, Mesner terrorized opposing quarterbacks for the Maryland Terrapins as he compiled 18 sacks from 1983-1986, sixth most in school history. After being selected by the Buffalo Bills in the eighth round of the 1987 NFL Draft, Bruce played 11 games for the team that year. It was his only action in the NFL.
