Career Highlights:
Burnstein was a three-year starter for Arizona State University. He started ten games as a sophomore in 1994 and registered 23 tackles (including four for losses) and had two fumble recoveries. The Sun Devils finished 3-8 that season. In 1995, Burnstein helped Arizona State improve to 6-5.

1996 was a dream season for Burnstein and the Sun Devils. Brent was named All-Pac 10 honorable mention as the Sun Devils, led by Jake "The Snake" Plummer won the Pac 10. They finished the regular season with a perfect 11-0 record, the Pac 10 championship, and a berth in the Rose Bowl.

In the Rose Bowl, Arizona State lost to No. 2 Ohio State, 20-17, when the Big Ten champs scored a touchdown with only 19 seconds remaining in the game. During the game, Burnstein blocked a field goal attempt (his fourth block of the season) and also blocked the extra-point kick on OSU's game-winning touchdown. The Sun Devils finished the year with a record of 11-1 and a No. 4 national ranking.

Burnstein signed as an undrafted free agent with the Tennessee Titans in April 1997, but was waived after just a few months, on July 22. One week later, Brent signed with the Arizona Cardinals, but was waived just prior to the start of the regular season. In 1998, Burnstein signed a one-year deal with the Cardinals, but was released before the season.
