Sussman, Joel

Sussman is considered the cornerstone of the current Cornell University defense, but has been plagued with knee injuries throughout his college career.

Career Highlights:
Joel made All-Country as a star linebacker for Great Neck North high school. He was made team captain in his senior year and was twice a letter winner. He also made the 2000 NY/LI all-star team.

The linebacker earned a starting role in his freshman 2001 season at Cornell University and has not relinquished his role since. He made 12 assists and executed 5 tackles that year.

In 2002, the sophomore Sussman churned out 40 assists while making 50 tackles, five of them for loss. He made 10 tackles in one game against Brown, including one for a 15-yard loss. The school made the post-season, but Joel was forced to sit it out with an untimely injury, and the Big Red ended up with a 4-6 record. Sussman received due recognition when he was selected to the All-Ivy second team.

The linebacker was sorely missed in the 2003 season as he was forced sit out the entire campaign with a serious knee injury. Cornell went 1-9 without him. However, Joel should be healthy in time for the 2004 season.
