In 1946, Laverson, a defender, was named All-American while playing at Temple University. Four years later, he joined the Drexel University's athletic department as a coach. For over 45 years, Laverson coached at Drexel, overlapping his duties in two sports, logging 40 years as an assistant men's soccer coach and 30 years as the school's men's tennis coach.
