Pisanti, David

Pisanti is considered by many to be one of the greatest left-sided defenders Israel has ever seen. He appeared in 25 international games for Israel between 1983-1989.

Career Highlights:
A defender for the majority of his career, Pisanti got his start at Hapoel Hadera as a forward. At the age of 17, he transferred to Maccabi Netanya where coach Amatzia Levkovitz turned the youngster into a defender. This allowed Pisanti wider spaces for his tireless runs, and he was thus transformed into a priceless offensive weapon. Thanks to Pisanti's key contributions Netayna won two championships in 1980 and in 1983, becoming the dominant team in the league.

David broke into the Israeli national team early on in his career, and was admired worldwide for his technique. He enjoyed a good stint on the continent with both English side Q.P.R. (Queens Park Rangers) and the German F.C. Cologne team. Cologne was a powerhouse side at the time, with the legendary Danish player, Morten Olsen, leading their ranks. With Pisanti playing, the Germans reached the 1986 UEFA Cup final against Real Madrid. Though they lost the first leg in Bernabeu stadium, 5-1, Germany restored some pride with a 2-0 victory on their home turf.

Pisanti returned to Israel and joined Hapoel Haifa, but a crippling injury ended his career prematurely.
