Shulman, Melissa

Shulman is a natural goalscorer, at home both on the dribble and off the ball. She played for the US Maccabi Games soccer team, which brought home the gold medal.

Career Highlights:
Shulman was a prolific scorer in her high school years at Walt Whitman High of Huntington, New York. While playing for her school, she also started for the amateur club HBC Magic as she helped them to the 1999, 2000, and 2001 State titles. With Melissa's sterling work at the front, Whitman High won the Suffolk County championship in 1999 and 2000, and was named county MVP during each of her years at the school. In 2000, her senior year, she broke the school record by scoring 34 goals. Her career numbers shattered the records as well, she tallied 99 career goals and 66 career assists.

Melissa adapted to college soccer very quickly. In her first year for Boston University, she started 17 games and scored 6 goals. She displayed a knack for scoring crucial goals as she netted 4 game-winners. Shulman was the school's top league scorer for 2001. That year she was named First Team All-Conference and America East All-Rookie Team. Expectations were understandably high in 2002, but Melissa suffered an agonizing leg injury and sat out the season.

Shulman bounced back for her junior year. She scored 11 goals and passed for six assists for Boston University. The "Terriers" did well, chalking up a 12-6-5 record. Melissa made All-American East first team and was named Offensive Player of the Year in her conference.
