Golan, Omer

Golan is a forward with a tremendous work rate and great enthusiasm for the game. He complements these traits with an eye for goal and enviable intelligence. Omer's good form has been rewarded with a call up to the Israeli national squad and a starting berth in Israel's 2006 World Cup qualifying campaign.

Career Highlights:
Omer is a Petah Tikva native and learned his craft in the Maccabi Petah Tikva youth system. He was part of the first team squad in the 2000-01 season. The forward made three appearances, twice as a substitute as he deputized for more experienced forwards like Assi Tubi and Shai Holtzman.

In the 2001-02 season, Omer played a slightly larger role for Maccabi. He appeared 6 times as a substitute and made one assist as Petah Tikva finished eighth. In 2002-03 as part of coach Guy Luzon's policy of involving youngsters, Golan was given a try in the first team. He responded well, putting on creditable displays with 3 goals in 13 starts for the team.

Golan enjoyed his breakout season in 2003-04. He earned his gig as Hapoel's undisputed starting striker as he started 27 league games. The forward scored a team leading 13 goals while Petah Tikva shot up to third place in the Israeli Premier League. In April 2004, he made his international debut for Israel against Moldova.
