A professional soccer player for River Plate and Platense, Wergifker also played internationally for Argentina in the 1930s. In 1935, he played in the 'Copa Juan Mignaburu,' a contest between the Argentines and Uruguay (Argentina won 3-0).

Born in Brazil, Wergifker moved to Argentina as a youngster and played his professional soccer in that country. A defender, he played for River Plate (in Buenos Aires) from 1932-1941 and appeared in 403 matches for the club. He then played for Platense from 1942-1946 and appeared in another 95 matches.
