Geller, Sandor

A goalkeeper for Hungary in the 1950s, Geller was described by Andrew Handler in From the Ghetto to the Games as, "...dependable, tenacious, and diligent." He was a member of both the 1952 gold medal Hungarian Olympic team and the 1954 World Cup squad, but did not play in either tournament because he backed up Hungary's great goalie, Gyula Grosics. During his international career, Geller appeared in eight games for Hungary.

Career Highlights:
The backup goalkeeper on the Hungarian National team in the 1950s, Geller was a member of the 1952 Olympic squad that captured the gold medal. Two years later, he was a member of the World Cup team that played in the final, but lost to West Germany 3-2.
One of Hungary's best goalkeepers during his career, he led his club Bastya Budapest to the Hungarian Championship in 1951. Two seasons later, playing for Voros Lobogo, Geller again won the title.
