Leventhal was a member of Israel's 1976 Olympics team that reached the quarterfinals and finished fifth in the standings. A defender, Eli started all three preliminary games where Israel drew with Guatemala, 0-0, Mexico, 2-2, and France, 1-1. Israel's three points placed them second in thier group, behind France, good enough to advance to the quarterfinals. Leventhal then started and played the entire quarterfinal match against powerhouse Brazil, who defeated Israel, 4-1.
