Talbi, Rachamin

Talbi, a midfielder, was a member of the Israeli national soccer team in the late 1960s and early 1970s and played for Israel's 1970 World Cup squad (the only time in history that Israel reached the final stage of competition). During his career, Talbi appeared in 32 international games and scored four goals.

Talbi, who played for the Israeli National team from 1965-1973, was a member of the 1968 Olympic team that reached the quarterfinals and finished fifth in the official standings. In the first two preliminary games, Talbi was in the starting 11, and Israel defeated both Ghana (5-3) and El Salvador (3-1). In the game against El Salvador, Talbi scored the first goal for Israel.

Josef did not appear in the tournament after the El Salvador victory, and Israel lost to Hungary, 2-0, in their final preliminary game. Israel finished in second place in the group to advance to the quarterfinals. The match against Bulgaria ended in a 1-1 draw, and to determine which team advanced to the semifinals, there was a coin toss, which the Bulgarians won.

Talbi was a member of Israel's team at the 1970 World Cup, the only time in the country's history that they advanced to the final stage of competition. In their group, Israel lost to Uruguay (2-0), tied Sweden (1-1), and tied Italy (0-0), but did not advance past the preliminary group. Talbi started against Uruguay, but was substituted for during the game.
