Meisl, Willy

Willy was the younger brother of Hugo Meisl. A prominent journalist in Germany during the 1920s and 1930s, Meisl fled to Sweden after the Nazi rise to power. He is a member of the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame (media wing).

b. Dec. 26, 1895 - d. 1968

Career Highlights:
Meisl was the goalkeeper for the Austrian national team in the 1910s before becoming a respected sportswriter. He was forced to flee to Sweden by the Nazis, and coached swimming and soccer there. He also wrote many books, including ABCs of Football and Swimming and Soccer Revolution.
