Silkman, Barry

Silkman played professionally as a midfielder and forward in England in the 1970s and 1980s. He played for a number of teams, including Mancester City, Wycombe, Crystal Palace, and Brentford.

He is currently an agent for many soccer players, including Israeli Eyal Berkovic, who was signed as the most expensive transfer in Israeli and Scottish history when Celtic acquired his rights in August 1999.

Career Highlights:
Before playing professionally in England, Silkman began his soccer career in amateur circles with teams such as Fulham, Wycombe, and Wimbledon. He then turned professional and signed with Crystal Palace in 1976. Over the next two years, Silkman appeared in 40 games for Palace and scored two goals. He then moved to Plymouth in 1978, then joined Manchester City in March 1979 in a highly publicized move.

While at City, Silkman appeared in 19 games and scored three goals. While with the club, Barry made his mark with his dribbling ability, his afro, and by becoming a racehorse owner. City loaned Silkman to Maccabi Tel Aviv in January, 1980. However, Barry quickly left Israel before he played a single game after he learned that his status rendered him eligible to be called up to the Israeli Army! Silkman returned to England and signed with Brentford in July 1980.

After playing in 14 games for Brentford, Silkman played 22 games for QPR (Queens Park Rangers), and then spent four seasons with Leyton Orient, scoring 14 goals in 133 appearances. He moved briefly to Southend United in 1985, and then played on a non-contractual basis for Crewe and Wycombe. By the late 1980s, Silkman had become a successful greyhound trainer. He later became a player's agent.
