Career Highlights:
Born in New York, Greenspan began playing tennis at the age of 13 on the playgrounds of the city. After advancing beyond female competition of her own age, Clara began playing older women and boys on the courts of Central Park. By the end of her teen years, she was one of the best players in the State of New York. In 1928, as a student at Hunter College in New York (she captained the team) Greenspan won the New Jersey State singles and doubles championship, the Eastern Clay Court singlkes title, and the New York State doubles championship. That was her best year in tennis, although she continued to play in tournaments until the late 1930s.
