Hecht, Ladislav

Hecht was a Czech Jew who, in 1934, rose to the world No. 8 ranking in doubles. He emigrated to the United States before World War II and became an American citizen. Ladislav had been Czechoslovakia's top-ranked player in 1936.

Career Highlights:
During the 1930s and 1940s, Hecht was a top world player. In 1932, he became the first Maccabiah Games singles champion. In 1942, Ladislav was ranked No. 10 in the USA and the Nazis even ranked him 7th in Europe.
