Abraham Alan Segal

Segal, a colorful personality, was South Africa's top player for two straight years, winning the country's national championship in 1964. In 1958, Abe was ranked in the top 10 by the French Sports Daily L'Equipe.

Career Highlights:
With partner Gordon Forbes, Segal formed one of the most powerful South African doubles teams in the 1950s and 1960s. They were especially good in Davis Cup play and were respected world-wide. Segal, a southpaw (left-hander), was also ranked No. 1 in South Africa in 1962 and 1963 before winning the South African national singles championship the following year in his 15th attempt; he defeated Forbes for the title.
