Avraham Ran

Ran, a legendary goalkeeper for Maccabi Haifa and Israel, died tragically at the age of 23. Had he lived and played longer he might have been as good, if not better, then Ya'akov Chodorov, considered the greatest goalkeeper in Israeli history.

b. Aug. 25, 1963 - d. July 11, 1987

Career Highlights:
From his promotion to first-string goalkeeper until his unfortunate death, Ran did not miss one minute of play. He stood in goal when Maccabi Haifa won the two straight Israel League championships in 1983-84 and 1984-85. The following year, he conceded only 18 goals and did not allow a single penalty to be scored. In 1986, Ran also claimed his place as Israeli national goalkeeper. Only one year later, after nine international appearances for the National team, he was killed in a boating accident.
