Lavi, David

Lavi was a predatory striker with excellent heading skills, and formed an exciting scoring partnership with Oded Machness for Maccabi Netanya. In 1978, David also appeared in his only international game for the Israeli National team.

Career Highlights:
The 1977-78 season was an outstanding one for Lavi; Netanya won the triple: the Israel League championship, State Cup and European Inter-toto Cup. Lavi was the league leading scorer with 16 goals including eight headed goals! Although Netanya did not capture any title the following year, Lavi had another great year, scoring 16 goals in 30 games to become the league's top scorer. In 1979-80, Netanya won another league title and Lavi's performance was terrific, scoring 18 goals to lead the team. David went on to capture league scoring honors again in 1980-81, this time with 18 goals in 30 appearances.

To many followers of Israeli soccer, the 1981-82 Maccabi Netanya team was the most technical side ever seen, as Lavi and Machness slaughtered opponents with their goal-scoring prowess. The club's defense was not consistent enough, however, and they finished second in the league. The following year, coach Mordechay Spiegler brought order to the club. Lavi scored 13 goals during the season as Netanya won its fifth, and final, title.

In 1984-85, Lavi become the league's leading scorer for the third time in his career with 18 goals. After his playing days ended, Lavi turned to coaching. His stint with Netanya was productive, and today he works with the Netanya youth team.
