Newblatt, George

Newblatt played at New York University in the late 1920s. As a senior in 1930, George was named to the legendary Nat Holman's All-Metropolitan team.

Career Highlights:
A guard and excellent defensive man, Newblatt was considered one of NYU's greatest players during the center-jump era. He began his collegiate career in 1928 as a sophomore. George was a starter that season and the Violets finished 8-6. The following year, George was joined in the starting line-up by junior forward Charles Schuman and NYU finished 13-3.

In 1930, Newblatt was the NYU team captain. He he and Schuman led the Violets to a record of 13-3 and the squad was rated as one of the best teams in the East. That year, NYU won the Yale Basketball Tournament (a short-lived four-team tournament) and Newblatt was praised as a, "...defensive genius and capable shot. New York basketball fans have not seen so effective a guard as Newblatt in many years."
