Herman Silverberg

Silvers, a featherweight in the 1920s, was the brother of 1927 NBA world flyweight champion Pinky Silverberg.

Career Highlights:
Born Herman Silverberg, Silvers began his professional career in 1922 at the age of 18, fighting Harry Gordon to a 10-round draw. On July 18, 1924, Silvers defeated Tommy Lynch in Rockaway, New York. Eleven days later, he travelled to Warren, Rhode Island and fought featherweight contender Chick Suggs; Silvers lost a 10-round decision. He remained active in the ring over the next couple of years and even filled in for his brother, Pinky Silverberg, in January 1927. Scheduled to face Sammy Tisch, Silverberg (112 pounds) weighed nine fewer pounds than Tisch (121), and was not allowed to fight. In his place, Silvers (who weighed 124 pounds) fought Tisch and won a 10-round decision. Silvers continued to fight until 1929, when he was knocked out by Hall of Famer Kid Chocolate in the first-round of their December 10 bout. Silvers lived in New York City his entire life.
