Farber, Lou

Farber played at Brown in the mid-1920s and was a member of the famed 1926 "Iron Men" team. That year, Brown defeated Yale and Dartmouth in successive weeks without making a single substitution. Two weeks later, the eleven starters (including Farber, Albert Cornsweet, and Dave Mishel) played the first 57 minutes in a win over Harvard. They won their first nine games before tying Colgate in the final 10-10; all 11 Brown starters played the entire game again. Current research would indicate that the Brown team was the first to which the term "Iron Men" was applied.

Career Highlights:
In 1926, Farber was named New York Times All-America honorable mention and AP All-East honorable mention as the Bears had a record of 9-0-1 (they outscored their opponents 223-36). After a mediocre 3-6-1 season in 1927, the Bears rebounded in 1928. That year, Farber was named AP All-America honorable mention and Brown finished 8-1-0, losing only to Yale.

After his playing days ended, Lou coached high school football in Tucson, Arizona and was Arizona Football Coach of the Year in 1961. The stadium at Pueblo High School is named Lou Farber Stadium.
