Kaplan was Israel's sole gymnast (male or female) at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. In the individual all-around competition, he finished 65th (out of 93 gymnasts) with a score of 122.250.

Career Highlights:
One of Israel's top male gymnasts in the 1980s and 1990s, Kaplan was the national all-around champion from 1989-1992 (for club teams Be'er Sheva and Holon). In 1990, he finished in 33rd place (55.050) in the individual all-around at the European Championships, the highest finish in Israel's history. Kaplan returned to the Championship two years later, finishing in 27th place with 55.650 points.

Kaplan also competed at the World Championships in both the individual and team events. In 1989, he helped Israel finish 22nd while placing 82nd in the individual all-around. Kaplan returned to the World Championships three times. The Israeli team placed 22nd again in 1991 while Ron placed 64th in the all-around. He then finished 67th in the all-around in 1993 and 54th in 1994. After his retirement from gymnastic competition, Kaplan became a television commentator in Israel .
