At the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Nir and his brother (and partner) Ran Chantal, competed in the 470-class competition and finished in 20th place (133.00).

Career Highlights:
In 1987, Nir and Ran won the 420-class event at the World Youth Sailing Championship. They then finished second in 1993 and third in 1995 at the World Championships. At the 1999 European Championships, they won the third race of the competition, but finished in 20th place overall. In December 2001, the Chantal brothers were ranked No. 73 in the world.
