Jelinek was a member of the United States rowing team at the 1924 Paris Olympic Games, and competed in the four-with-coxswain event (a coxswain directs and steers). In the preliminary round, the U.S. won their heat in 7:19.0. In the final, the they finished third to win the bronze medal.

Career Highlights:
A member of the University of Pennsylvania eight as a bowman from 1921-1923, Jelinek was a member of the Bachelor Barge Club of Philadelphia in the 1920s. After graduating from Penn with a degree in architecture, he designed a number of factories, office buildings, and apartments in Philadelphia, establishing his own office in 1945.
