An outstanding weightlifter, Haas won two Olympic medals during his career while competing for Austria. At the 1928 Amsterdam Games, Haas took the gold in the lightweight division with a combined lift of 709.5 pounds (187 in press, 225.5 in snatch, and 297 in jerk) or 322.5 kg.

Haas returned to the Olympics four years later at the 1932 Los Angeles Games, but could not defend his lightweight title and wound up with the silver medal. Haas lifted a total of 676.5 pounds (307.5 kg) with 181.5 in the press, 220 in the snatch, and 275 in the jerk.

Career Highlights:
Haas was the Austrian National lightweight champion in 1930 and 1931; he lifted 699.5 pounds both years. He was also the European Champion in both 1930 and 1931.
