A member of the Hungary's women's gymnastics team at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, Kertesz helped her team capture the silver medal in the team competition with 443.50 combined points (1.30 points behind the Soviet Union, who took the gold). Kertesz also won the gold medal in the portable apparatus competition, and placed sixth in the uneven bars.

Career Highlights:
At the 1954 World Championships, Kertesz finished 11th in the individual all-around competition and helped Hungary capture the silver medal in the team event. Four years later, she finished 26th in the all-around competition as Hungary finished fifth in the team event. Based on archived world rankings (from www.worldgymrank.com), Kertesz was ranked in the top 25 from 1955-1959. Her peak was No. 14 in 1956 and 1957.
