Greenberg was a member of the United States water polo team at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics, (one of his teammates was fellow Jew, Sam Greller). After automatically advancing to the second round (they drew no opponent in the first round), the Americans drew one of the world's best teams, Hungary (who had defeated Argentina 14-0 in the first-round). In Greenberg's only start for the U.S. team, the Americans were overwhelmed by the Hungarians and shut out by Hungary's Jewish goalkeeper, Istvan Barta, 5-0. The Hungarians went on to win the silver medal, and the U.S. team lost to France 2-1 in a round-robin for the bronze medal (Greenberg did not play in the game), and officially finished in seventh place.

Career Highlights:
In 1927, while competing for the Chicago Athletic Association, Greenberg was a member of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that won the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) indoor championship.
