Olympic Info:
One of America's top fencers in the 1940s and 1950s, Lubell competed for the United States in the foil event at three consecutive Olympiads. At the 1948 London Games, the U.S. advanced to the finals of the team foil competition after defeating Great Britain and Egypt in the semifinals; they finished fourth overall.

Lubell returned to the Olympics in 1952 at Helsinki, although the U.S. only reached the quarterfinals before being eliminated. He also competed in the individual foil event and finished second in his first-round pool with four wins. He then won his second-round pool before being eliminated in the semifinals by finishing fourth in his pool (the top three fencers advanced to the final).

Lubell appeared at the Olympics once more in 1956 at the Melbourne Games and helped the U.S. finish in fourth place in the team foil event. Among Lubell's teammates in 1952 and 1956 were International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame members, Albert Axelrod and Daniel Bukantz.

Career Highlights:
Lubell, a member of the CCNY Athletic Hall of Fame, graduated from CCNY (City College of New York) in 1936 and became one of America's top fencers. The 1948 U.S. foil champion, Lubell won the bronze medal in the individual foil and took the gold in the team foil and team sabre at the 1951 Pan American Games.
