In the semifinals, the Soviets defeated Uruguay (61-57) to set up a rematch with the U.S. for the gold medal. In the final, the Soviets used a stall to try and frustrate the American team and although they had a 17-15 halftime lead, the U.S. shot well from the outside in the second half and defeated the Soviet Union, 36-25. Moiseyev scored four points in the game and the Soviets were awarded the silver medal.
