A defenseman, Kucherevsky was a member of the Soviet Union ice hockey team at two Olympiads and won two medals. At the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, the Soviets went unbeaten and won the gold medal. They defeated Sweden (5-1) and Switzerland (10-3) in the preliminaries, and then dispatched Sweden (4-1), Germany (8-0), Czechoslovakia (7-4), the United States (4-0), and Canada (2-0) in the round-robin finals to win the gold.

Kucherevsky returned to the Olympics at the 1960 Games in Squaw Valley, California. The Soviet team easily advanced to the final round with victories over Germany (8-0) and Finland (8-1) in their preliminary pool. In the finals, Kucherevsky and the Soviets defeated Czechoslovakia (8-5) and Germany (7-1), but tied Sweden (2-2), and lost to Canada (5-8), and the United States (2-3). They finished third in the final standings and were awarded the bronze medal; Kucherevsky had three assists during the tournament.

Career Highlights:
Kucherevsky was a member of the powerful Soviet Union Red Army hockey team in the 1950s. He played on the National team that competed in the World Championships in 1954-56, 1958, and 1960; the Soviets won the gold in 1954, the silver in 1955 and 1958, and the bronze in 1960.
