A member of the United States swimming team at the 1976 Montreal Olympics, Weinberg competed in the 800-meter freestyle. She advanced to the final, where she finished in third place with a time of 8:42.6 to capture the bronze medal.

Career Highlights:
Following her Olympic triumph, Weinberg attended the University of Virginia and became one of the school's best swimmers. In 1977, she won the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Championship in the 50-meter freestyle, the 1650-meter freestyle, and the 200-meter butterfly; she was an All-America in all three events and also received All-America honors in the 400-meter medley relay and the 800-meter freestyle relay. Wendy is still No. 9 in school history in the 500-meter freestyle (4:53.52) and No. 10 in the 1000-meter freestyle (10:01.10).

At the 1977 Maccabiah Games, Wendy dominated the competition, winning gold medals in the 200-meter freestyle (2:08.96), the 400-meter freestyle (4:26.14), the 800-meter freestyle (9:03.46), the 200-meter butterfly (2:20.80), the 4x100-meter freestyle relay (4:10.09), and the 4x100-meter medley relay (4:40.00).
