Bavikin, one of Israel's top track and field athletes, competed in the javelin throw at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. In the preliminaries, he finished 13th in his group with a distance of 242'4-3/4" (73.88-meters), and did not advance to the finals; he officially finished in 24th place.

Career Highlights:
After emigrating from Russia in 1990, Vadim quickly became one of Israel's top sportsmen. In 1991, he won the silver medal at the European Cup (C division) competition with a javelin throw of 73.04 meters. A eight-time Israeli National champion in the javelin (1990-1991, 1993, 1998-2002), Vadim was banned from competition for four years in 1994 for steroid use.

Upon his return to international competition, Bavikin quickly returned to top form and broke his own national record in the javelin with a throw of 80.48 meters in 2000. In 2002, he again broke his own record (for the seventh time), with a throw of 81.68-meters. Through July 14, 2003, Vadim was ranked No. 21 in the world in the javelin.
