Springer was killed by Arab terrorists at the 1972 Munich Games. He was a member of the Israeli Olympic delegation as a weightlifting referee. The Munich Olympics were his fifth Games as an official. He was 51 years old.

Career Highlights:
After emigrating to Israel from Poland in 1956 (he had been a leading wrestler and weightlifter in his native country), Springer became a teacher and coach. Appointed Israeli national weightlifting coach, he also helped train referees and officiated at many international competitions.
