Schwartz competed in three swimming events at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics for Canada. She finished 15th overall in the 200-meter butterfly (2:14.07), and 20th in the 400-meter freestyle (4:19.46). Schwartz also swam the third leg in the 4x200-meter freestyle relay, in which Canada finished in fifth place with a time of 8:08.16.

Career Highlights:
One of Canada's top swimmers since the mid-1990s, Andrea first made the National team in 1995. She was the gold medalist in the 200-meter butterfly at the 1995 Canada Cup, and finished second in the same event at the 1996 Canada Cup. In 1997, she competed in the short course World Championships, finishing 11th in the 800-meter free (8:44.72), and 14th in the 200-meter butterfly (2:12.66). That year, at the Canadian National Championships, she finished first in the 800-meter free (8:51.59), seventh in the 200-meter freestyle (2:03.94), third in the 400-meter freestyle (4:18.89), eighth in the 100-meter butterfly (1:03.17), and seventh in the 200-meter butterfly (2:19.02).

In 1999, swimming for the University of Calgary, Andrea broke the meet record in the 200-meter butterfly (2:15.38), and 400-meter butterfly at the Canada West University Swimming Championships. She also competed in the FINA Swimming World Cup, held from November 17, 1999 - February 17, 2000 at 12 different venues. During the competition, Schwartz swam very well for Canada, finishing in the top eight of 5 events; her best result was fourth place in the 200-meter butterfly.
