Weinberg was the coxswain (steers and directs) for the United States' eights-with-coxswain team at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. The Americans finished in third place in their first-round heat (5:42.05), then finished third again in their second-round heat (5:48.60). They advanced to the finals by winning their consolation heat in 3:13.26. In the final, the U.S. team finished in ninth place with a time of 6:11.07; the winning team finished in 5:58.29.

Career Highlights:
In the early to mid-1970s, Weinberg was a member of the some of the top rowing teams in the U.S. and world. At Harvard, David was a three-year varsity member and helped the 1974 Crimson team go undefeated to win the national championship. During this time, Weinberg (the coxswain) was also a member of the U.S. National team. In 1973, the U.S. finished in fourth place in the coxed fours at the European Championships; the following year, the U.S. won the World Championship in the coxed eights. In 1984, Weinberg was inducted into the U.S. Rowing Hall of Fame and is also a member of the Harvard Athletic Hall of Fame.
