Weinstein was a member of the Israeli fencing team at the 1972 Munich Olympics. During the Games, Palestinian terrorists broke into the Olympic Village with the intention of taking the entire Israeli delegation hostage. Weinstein was not captured by the terrorists, but 11 Israelis were killed in what has been termed the "Munich Massacre." One of the murdered Israelis was fencing coach (and referee) Andre Spitzer.
