A Tunisian fencer at the 1960 Rome Olympics, Barouch was officially nominated to carry the Tunisian flag at the opening ceremonies, the first and only time a Jew has ever carried the flag for an Arab country in the Olympics. At the Games, Barouch competed in both the individual epee and sabre events. In the epee, he won only one of five matches in his preliminary pool and was eliminated. In the sabre, Barouch was again eliminated in the first round after he won only one match in his Pool.
